This weekend course is all about Japanese tea bowl ceramics. You will learn how to create a tea bowl inspired by Japanese traditions using common handbuilding techniques in clay such as kurinuki, learning about the zen philosophy and looking at local sources of inspiration. The course is a good mix of theory on Japanese ceramics and the practical part, including demonstrations, guidance and self explorational time for personal creations, in which you can apply ceramic techniques. We draw inspiration from traditional regional styles such as Echizen or Seto as well as modern Japanese ceramics and approaches such as WabiSabi. Who is it for? This course is aimed at people with and without previous ceramic experience. You will learn a new method and a lot about clay. Based on the group the class will be held in english and/or german. Firing the created ceramics? The ceramics are fired by the course leader, Anke Buchmann after the first weekend workshop. A few weeks later we meet again for the second part of the workshop: the glazing. This is the time where you can add colour and decoration to your tea bowls. The ceramic pieces will then be fired again up to 1220*C. The workshop is split into 3 parts. Part 1: (1h break) 1 Nov, Sat & 2 Nov, Sun 11am - 4pm - shaping and trimming Part 2: 22 Nov, Sat 11am - 1pm - glazing session Part 3: 29. Nov Tea Ceremony 4pm - 6pm With our fired chawans we will sit together and drink the tea while reflecting over the shared experience.
